Enhancing Data Analytics and Visualization for a Health-Tech Company

The client is a health-tech organization that specializes in Digital Therapeutics (DTx), helping individuals with conditions such as diabetes and obesity reach meaningful health outcomes through personalized technology and science. This case study covers the strategic consulting engagement that reset their analytics stack.

Challenges

The company had identified and implemented certain martech tools, but ad hoc implementation and platform selection meant they were not getting the expected results. They were looking for a partner to help plan and organize their analytics strategy and implementation.

First, they required a review of their current implementation of RudderStack, Mixpanel, and Google BigQuery, and suggestions for necessary changes. Second, they were struggling to track product metrics effectively and needed guidance on the best processes for tracking them. Finally, they were unsure which platform to choose for visualization, whether Metabase, Google Data Studio, or another platform, and needed help identifying the right one for their needs.

Our solution

To address these challenges in their data analytics and visualization processes, we worked through the following steps:

  • Understand business objectives: We first gained a deep understanding of the company's business objectives and requirements to build a plan.
  • Application walkthrough: We conducted a thorough walkthrough of the company's wellness app, coach dashboard, and website to understand their existing data infrastructure in depth.
  • Understand the existing tech stack: We analyzed the company's existing tools, including LeadSquared, WebEngage, Facebook Ads, Google Ads, and YouTube Ads, to identify integration points and data sources.
  • Define short-term goals and KPIs: We defined short-term goals and key performance indicators so the company could measure the success of their analytics initiatives.
  • Product analytics: We recommended best practices for tracking user engagement, conversion rates, and other critical business metrics. Using our proprietary kaliper.io framework, we identified and set up the metrics that needed to be tracked.
  • Analytics stack decision: We provided a comparative analysis of the options in each layer of the stack: collection tools such as Firebase and Segment, warehouses such as BigQuery, Redshift, and Snowflake, and visualization tools such as Google Data Studio, Tableau, Looker, Power BI, Mixpanel, and Amplitude.

Results

By implementing these recommendations, the company improved their data analytics and visualization processes, measured critical business metrics accurately, and made decisions from data they trusted.

  • KPI planning was developed collaboratively and documented in a structured, trackable form on our platform.
  • Cutting the number of tracked events reduced CDP platform cost by 66%.
  • On our recommendation, they implemented RudderStack for the CDP, Google BigQuery for the warehouse, and Mixpanel for visualization.
  • PII data compliance was ensured by using RudderStack to control the flow of PII data to destinations.
